When you need to update or configure your Universal-SIM using Universal-SIM Update & Configuration software you’ll have to use an ISO comapatible smartcard reader.
There are 2 main types of smartcard redeaders:
- with auto detect
- without card auto detect
PKEY it is sold as a auto-detect smartcard reader.
First insert the card….
Then you have 2 choices: either you fix the Universal-SIM using some sim card or you can use your finger to press gently on the card, but remember you’ll have to keep the card connected to the reader as long as the update process takes. So better use the first method.
Also first method is suitable if you don’t have your PKEY dissasambled like us.
Is always better to connect the reader to computer after the Universal-SIM is inside the reader.
To see if Universal-SIM it’s properly connected you can watch the LED’s from the reader. They must blink when you insert the reader into computer ( this is valid for all Omnikey readers, including PKEY ).
Now you can easily work with your Universal-SIM.

you can use usb smart like readers but are little old .. and not so stable as PKEY VISTA.
If you have problems updating Universal-SIM ( don’t detect card anymore ) you should sitch to PKEY VISTA. admin

Hey, I keep getting ‘Card detection failed’ when I try to update. The card reader is working fine with other cards but not Uni Sim. So I really need this Pkey exact reader. b
