iPhone 3G – Upgrade to 2.2 without bricking your iPhone 3G

If you want to upgrade to 2.2 version of iPhone and you still want to be able to use your phone together with Universal-SIM please follow the next steps.

The idea is to update your mobile phone without updating your modem / baseband firmware. In order to do this you must prepare a special flash file that does not contain the modem / baseband firmware upgrade. You can prepare this file using pwnage 2 ( only on MAC computers ). If you don’t own a MAC or you don’t want to prepare the file yourself you can use the file offered by ILikeMyIPhone.com.

Here are the steps you need to perform:

1. You need to have an working 2.1 version of iPhone 3G

- if you have older version of iPhone 3G:

* using latest iTunes ( iTunes 8 ) connect iPhone 3G, press SHIFT KEY on Windows computers ( or option key on MAC ) and then press RESTORE button ( while holging the SHIFT KEY ).

* you will be prompted to select the ipsw file

* download and select the next file -> iPhone 3G 2.1 ipsw Original

2. You need to have your 2.1 firmware patched ( jailbreaked using QuickPWN 2.2 )

- please use QuickPwn 2.2 in order to do this

- download from here QuickPwn 2.2

3. Restore your iPhone using the custom firmware ( ipsw ) we provided later on

- using latest iTunes ( iTunes 8 ) connect iPhone 3G, press SHIFT KEY on Windows computers ( or option key on MAC ) and then press RESTORE button ( while holging the SHIFT KEY )

- select the custom ipsw we provide here and wait untill process is complete

The following ipsw ( flash file ) is with 533 MB root partition (DeFacto as it is termed by Johnny)!

No boot logos (standard apple logo) / 533mb root partition / No baseband upgrade / cydia, installer / Activated for T-mobile / You Tube activated

You can download a copy of this file from:

Universal-SIM link: iPhone22_Custom_Restore_iLikeMyiPhone_533MB_Activated.zip

Rapidshare link(s) ( merge this 3 files using HJ-Split :

iPhone1_2_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore_iLikeMyiPhone_533MB_Activated.ipsw.001

iPhone1_2_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore_iLikeMyiPhone_533MB_Activated.ipsw.002

iPhone1_2_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore_iLikeMyiPhone_533MB_Activated.ipsw.003

If something goes wrong please start from the begining. It is always a good ideea to restore first your iPhone using 2.1 firmware.

Hello friends…. I’m in Big trouble … can any one help me in this issue…
I have I-Phone 8gb. My brother has purchased it from Australia for me. I had unlock this I-Phone from here(India). It was working fine. But 2day when I connect my I-Phone to I-Tunes8, then it showed an update available for my I-Phone.
My old I-Phone software ver 2.1 & new was 2.2. I updated my I-Phone to 2.2 software. After this update, my I-Phone restarted & then the message appears that “The SIM Card inserted in this I-Phone does not appear to be supported. Only Compatible SIM Cards from a supported Carrier may be used to activate I-Phone. Please Insert The SIM Card that Came with your I-Phone or visit a supported Carrier’s store to receive a replacement SIM card.” & my I- phone locked permanently & its shows that “Emergency Calls Only”. even i cant see the applications. please help me. if any one know about this problem. I have Airtel 64K SIM & I’m living in Punjab.
